Say Hello to the Sun

This month Real Simple magazine printed an article with tips for maintaining energy throughout the day. According to Matthew Edlund, M.D. it can take up to two hours to awaken the brain. (This is why I’m always a little foggy in the am. I apologize to my 8amers) However, exposure to light stimulates your brain to stop producing melatonin while actually taking you out of sleep mode. So, my second tip for energy in the morning is to- let in the light!

This can sometimes be challenging if you rise before your partner or spouse. To avoid getting hit by a pillow I would suggest drawing the curtains in another room of your home. Although getting hit by a pillow may wake you as well. 🙂

Check out the day and weather and take a few moments to check in with your body as well. How is your energy this morning? How is your body feeling? Take a few breaths and think about what you would like to accomplish. This will help your brain wake up and give you a specific plan for the day. My next tip will be stretches for a stiff spine so stay tuned.
