Relax, Places, Action: Exercise & Relaxation for Actors

This is the view from our class!!!

When studying as an actor in New York I found that I did my best work in class after my teacher, Terry Schreiber, lead us through a physical warm-up and relaxation routine. I practiced many of those exercises as well as others that I learned as a somatic professional before auditions and performance. However, it was always invigorating and encouraging to practice within a class setting. “Relax, Places, Action” (RPA) was developed with the desire offer actors an ongoing exercise and warm-up class for auditions and performance.

RPA is a physically oriented multidisciplinary approach aimed at releasing tension and increasing presence for the actor. As you may know, tension is a killer for performance. Even after hours of preparation and emotional investment, tension can kill an audition. Part fitness and part relaxation, this one hour class opens the mind and body to greater awareness. Using pilates, yoga, and relaxation techniques, RPA will help you master your auditions by channeling anxiety into usable energy. Tone your body and prep for auditions in the same hour!

Where: RPA is located at the historic Yamashiro Restaurant
When: Every Monday at 9:30am
RSVP: Please sign-up by emailing Me! (Meghan)
Cost: Suggested donation of $12

I love this class, it is wonderful. My auditions have been going awesomely plus I know how to stand up straight and finally figured out my downward facing dog. It just helps you get back in your body and start the week off right.

I agree with Zuri and Jenny. I have a lot to work on, especially my posture. With Meghan’s special attention, my form is getting a lot better.

Also, I love coming to class every Monday morning, setting intentions, and talking with other actors/writers. It’s a great community of people. I especially like coming to RPA because I am not in an acting class right now but this gets me back in my body and relaxes me so I’m ready for anything.
